€100,000 awarded to the CDA

The 2017 Town & Village Renewal Scheme for County Cork which was funded by the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and is administered through Cork County Council, saw Castletownbere Development Association lodge an application for funding to knock the existing Cork County Council building at West End and replace it with a new Car Park to cater for the West End of town. This application was successful and €100,000 was awarded to the CDA, so that Cork County Council could carry out the works at the location.

Prior to Christmas the County Council, hired in Local Contractors to carry out phase one of the project; the demolition of the existing buildings on site and the removal of all rubble off site. This initial work has now been completed and the difference it has made to the light entering main street is incredible.
Phase two of the project which entails the laying of kerbs, footpaths and tarmacadam to create a safe, secure and aesthetically pleasing space within the town to park vehicles, is in the the final design stage with the council engineers & architects. Once they have signed off on the final design we will be able to provide a completion date for these works.
